NEW TUNE: Blood Diamonds – “Barcode” Ft. Dominic Lord (Figure Remix)

artworks-000042787170-u7ocg0-t500x500The Figure remix of Blood Diamonds’ ”Barcode” Ft. Dominic Lord has more violent hype and Skrillex flavor than the “sun-dipped” OWSLA artist’s original track. The remix’s quick transitions from the emotive “Nice Sprites” vocals to the “Scary Monsters” bass shocks draw blissful elation and then almost immediately redirect that feeling to rage frenzy in traditional Figure style. He starts with the diamonds and drops right into the blood.

Figure kicks it off with the unaltered airy and gentle Imogen Heap-type vocals from the original “Barcode”, and then quickly builds momentum. Just as the listener begins to wonder where Figure is, around 20 seconds in, he introduces a sort of chopped and screwed vocal sample of Dominic Lord rapping “AK47.” The initial atmospheric vocal melody seamlessly disappears and transitions to a strong drum build that drops into hard and spastic synth and bass madness. Figure doesn’t so much blend the killer sounds with the bright beauty as he juxtaposes them, giving listeners only a few cues with small bites of the soft vocals as to when he will switch back. Figure knew what he was doing when he chose to sample Lord rapping, “You gonna remember this shit, don’t even trip.”

Figure’s remix is one of three on Blood Diamonds’ Barcode EP, released by OWSLA on March 12, 2013. The EP is available on iTunes and Beatport through OWSLA’s website. Blood Diamonds is currently based in LA but spent time in Vancouver where he began experimenting with a distinctly light, indie style of electronic music that is undeniably fresh. FESTY NEWS: Wakarusa 2013 Unleashes The Beast For Tenth Birthday Celebration

166507_10151262411287983_289699625_nEach May, our excitement builds with plans of traveling deep into the abyss of the Appalachians to explore Mulberry Mountain and it’s landmark, prolific, and now ‘decade-old’ Wakarusa Music Festival. Hosted by the great minds of Pipeline Productions, Wakarusa is more than just your average run-of-the-mill Summer camping festival, Waka offers much more.

With careful precision and detailed selection, the lineup for Wakarusa has grown to be one of the most original, unique, and simply put ‘large’ festival lineups in all of the US. For 2013, they have busted the locks on all the cages and set the beasts free. Boasting headliners Widespread Panic, Dispatch, STS9, The Black Crowes, Amon Tobin, Snoop Lion, and Umphrey’s McGee the eclectic talent spreads to all genres and will make any fan of festival music aroused. Perhaps, that is just the icing on the cake though.

One of our favorite attributes of Wakarusa is the fact that they have a keen sense for booking the next big up-and-coming performers. From launching the festival career of Pretty Lights, to providing a touring stop for artists buzzing in the underground scenes of each genre, Wakarusa is the ideal event to expand your musical tastes and knowledge. This Summer will follow suite with potential future headliners like GRiZ, HeRobust, RL Grime, Wick-it the Instigator, Baauer, Cherub, The Werks, and Zoogma commanding a chunk of the vibrant lineup.

On top of all of this, the environment at Wakarusa cannot be duplicated. Tucked away on top of the gorgeous Mulberry Mountain in the Appalachian hills of Arkansas, there is always time to stop, sit, and admire nature (or take a swim in the river). If you add it up, you are left with no choice: buy your tickets now, or you will be left out! Seriously, you don’t want to regret missing the beast that has grown to be Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival 2013. Well, now we are brought back to the fact that it is only mid-January. The anticipation has set in. We are wired for Waka.

We will continue to update you on Wakarusa 2013 announcements and news. You can also find the information onWaka’s website (www.wakarusa.com). You can purchase your tickets to Wakarusa now. Check out the Wakarusa Official 2013 Preview Video below as well as the full lineup.

FESTY NEWS: Wakarusa Festival 2013 Announces Phase One Lineup

197003_10152393034030611_1000327086_n

Curated Music had a blast covering Wakarusa 2012. There isn’t a festival that is quite like Wakarusa. Tucked away deep in the Ozark’s Mulberry Mountain range, Wakarusa packs a multi-genre, five stage festival into four days of absolute madness. With temperatures busting over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, it surely embraces all that a summer music festival can offer. From riding the giant trippy ferris wheel, to lounging in the river, there is much more to Wakarusa than just the music, although, if the rest of the lineup is like phase one, then we are in for a treat!
