Curated Music Hits The Road For Summer Set Music Festival

Summer Set Music Festival is approaching fast. This is Harry here with Curated Music writing this festival preview from the road. With a 12 hour drive ahead of us, we can’t help but talk about the weekend to come.

The lineup for this massive first year festival reaches every audience. From Big Gigantic and GRiZ to NAS and Black Star. From Claude VonStroke and Bingo Players to Lotus and Umphrey’s. It is going to be hard to miss a set from this star studded lineup. I’m the type of guyy who lays awake at night thinking of being surrounded by such talent. I’m hoping to catch some sleep after this weekend.

The vibe that this inaugural festival is emitting is that of a Rothbury or and older Lollapalooza… With tents of course. Summer Set is glowing with energy. After a long day shooting, it will be nice to chill in the lazy river or bathe in a shower provided by the lovely people of Summer Set. Whichever activity, I do plan to have fun and enjoy myself.

Brendan Angelides is a San Francisco based electronic music producer who records and performs live as Eskmo. His multi-genre compositions have been featured on influential labels like Warp Records and Planet Mu (And as of July 2010, he was most recently signed to Ninja Tune). While Angelides’ tracks encompass a wide range of electronic styles, he avoids classifications. described his tracks as “Masterfully produced… sophisticated, post-Dilla hip-hop funk”. His last single of 2009 entitled “Let Them Sing” on Mu was met with equal praise and described by sites like Boomkat as “[Putting] Eskmo on his own electronic plateau.”

Curated Music & In2itiv Media Present: Headtron Showcase with Sugarpill, Gladkill, & ChrisB.

Logan Square Auditorium

August 31, 2012

in2itivmedia and Curated Music have teamed up to proudly present Headtron on the night of August 31, 2012 at Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago, IL.  These three highly talented and energetic musicians make their collective mid-west debut.

————Specializing in bouncing bass, sideways beats and sweet melodies, Sugarpill is a master of both the creation and delivery of polytemponic glitch bass. Residing in Los Angeles yet living in a twisted world of sound, this young artist stays dosed to the eyelids in chopped-up samples, meticulously tweaked beats and obese waves of bass.Sugarpill seamlessly merges his techy sensibility and immaculate production skills without ever losing the inherent sexiness of the beats, and this multidimensional musical approach unites EDM fans across a vast spectrum of genres. His original tracks combined with explosive live sets confirm for the producer a powerful spot at the forefront of West Coast future sound. Crossing genres effortlessly and employing a rich variety of styles, his lively and intense sound is best described as a party- and that is exactly what Sugarpill brings to the dance floor.—————————————————————————————–

———–Boris Gladkikh aka Gladkill has been on a meteoric rise in the electronic music scene since he first began playing live in 2009. Through his tremendous work ethic and tireless touring schedule, Gladkill has already played for massive audiences on the stages of large-scale music festivals such as Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, Earthdance and Burning Man, winning over new fans with every stop. When you listen to Gladkill’s songs or see him perform, you’ll discover an artist set apart between the sheets of cool bass lines and ethereal melodies. In an era where disposable dance music is big business, Gladkill makes anything but.

————Over the last two years, the original sounds of Los Angeles-based producer ChrisB. have taken the underground electronic music scene by storm. Drawn to music at an early age, Chris always had an instrument in his hands while embracing everything from hip-hop and funk, to jazz and classic rock. His passion for songwriting lead him to playing guitar in bands throughout his formative years, but it wasn’t until being exposed to the cutting-edge sounds of electronic music that he realized his true creative calling.Always eager to push himself, this charismatic producer spends countless hours in the studio sharpening his own production skills, where his notoriously deep and sensual soundscapes take over the dance floor. But don’t get it twisted, it’s not all chocolates and silk panties. Armed with a voracious appetite for exploring new sounds, ChrisB. can set any party off with his glitchy, crunk-heavy beats and hard-hitting 808‘s. Always striving to strike the perfect balance in his live sets, ChrisB. takes listeners on a psychedelic journey of beautiful melodies and driving bass.———————————————————————————————

Curated Music’s Top Ten: Electric Forest 2012

If you missed the 2nd annual Electric Forest Festival in the all mighty Rothbury, Michigan, then shame on you. Curated Music can say proudly that this is the beast of all music and camping festivals in the continental United States. All of this, lasers, lights, bass, beautiful people, and insane talent, in a “diamond in the rough” city in northwest Michigan. Following in the past years of the Rothbury Music Festivals (2008 & 2009), Electric Forest curated the biggest, brightest, and best names in EDM today and featured them on world class stages in front of a smiling, neon, glowing crowd… or family.

We here at Curated Music wouldn’t miss a gathering at the JJ Ranch in Rothbury Michigan for the world and we would like to tell you why:

10. Fireworks: Bring your own at your own risk (Not allowed at the festival BUT, their legal in Michigan now), or trust that others will be on top of their game, sit back, and enjoy the shows. When the music stops, the campgrounds light up like a Chinese new year.

9. General Store: Forgot something at home? Anything… seriously, anything?? Well, you can find it at Electric Forest’s general store. We really appreciate that!

8. Vendors: Give it up to Third Eye Pinecone, DanceSafe, Laser Guided Vision, ElectroFur, Outer Spaceways, and every other vendor for sticking through the heat with us and probably missing every set. Oh, and give it up to Eagles Nest Outfitters & Grand Trunk Hammocks for letting us “hang” all over the forest!

7. Ferris Wheel: Who can deny a ride on a Ferris Wheel that has more lights then every house in Rhode Island.

6. Waterpark: Waterslides and 90 degree weather go together like Michael Travis & Jason Hann of SCI! The lazy river was everything it promised to be and the intimidating line for the shuttle, really wasn’t so bad (and the bus was air-conditioned). Bring your own towel, and don’t leave before going down the giant toilet bowl.

5. GRiZ: Not to favor any artist, but this badman was part of 4 sets all weekend including an over capacity Wagon Wheel solo set, a super-secret forest set featuring Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic and Gramatik, and guest appearances with Gramatik, coined “GRiZMatik”, as well as closing out the festival with Big Gigantic debuting their new collaboration. GRiZ is insane and we cannot see whats in store for this young-gun!

4. Electric Forest’s Mobile App: We would never of known of last minute stage changes or secret forest sets without this. The free application prevented buzz-kills all weekend. There is nothing worse then missing a crazy secret set and hearing about it from your friends for a whole year. Thank you EFF for creating a kick-ass App!

3. The People: There is so much love at this festival. Nothing but smiles on every single soul’s faces. It is a beautiful thing when that many people can come together and get down for 4 nights. It is even more beautiful when it is organized by people that care. The security, the Michigan State Police, the W.E.T. Volunteers, and every ticket-holder beamed with happiness.

2. The Sherwood Forest: Try counting the lights in the Electric Forest’s Sherwood Forest. You can’t. This in sync, eye popping light show transforms the tree plot and the forest land into a vibrant, electric, & alive spectacle. Take a minute. Take an hour. Hang a hammock or find an empty one and just absorb the energy. We have never felt that anywhere else in the world.

1. The Music: Every set was not to be missed. It is very hard to sleep when the schedule is stacked with such amazing talent. The crock pot of genres kept every act fresh. We found ourselves running from stage to stage losing track of time, lost in the music. Each stage had it’s own unique vibe that meshed with every artist. Some of our favorite acts include: EOTO, Bassnectar, Mimosa, Richie Hawtin, and basically EVERYONE!

Curated Music is already counting down the days til our next trip to the forest!

CM Talks With GRiZ, Minnesota, & Michal Menert About Sonic Bloom 2012

With Sonic Bloom 2012 fast approaching, Curated Music has decided to give our friends, GRiZ, Minnesota, and Michal Menert a call to hear first-hand, their expectations on this prime Colorado electronic music festival. Returning home from performances at Lightning in a Bottle, Summer Camp, and Movement festivals, Minnesota had a moment to share his excitement about performing at his first Sonic Bloom and being on the bill with fellow producers, PantyRaid, Tipper, and of course, Random Rab‘s infamous Sunrise Set “It’s one of the festivals I’m most excited about this season”, said Minnesota, “I’m planning to put a lot of time into my set … I’m definitely going to be bringing my A-game to this festival.” Colorado is a meaningful venue for GRiZ, “I love playing out there”, he exclaims, “Stylistically its a perfect fit”. Headlined by artists Tipper, Bonobo, and PantyRaid, Sonic Bloom curated the finest lineup in bass music and experimental electronic music from home in Colorado to across the country. “More of my friends are playing this year”, Michal Menert explains the potential for surprise guest appearances, “It’s a cool way to bring together what used to happen at festivals… artists sitting in with each other… someone just jumps on set with somebody”. Sonic Bloom promises to be full of surprises. “I’m possibly playing some auxiliary sets around the Sonic Bloom festival grounds all weekend.” GRiZ reveals. Menert also discloses, “Me and Paul Basic are going to be breaking our sets into some Half Color stuff… Hes playing right before me… And then GRiZ is right after me… Its like a three-course meal”. However these sets play out, we are stoked to see every act on Sonic Bloom’s stacked lineup. Curated Music will be arriving to Colorado Wednesday night and will be in town until Sunday. We look forward to getting out in the crowd and getting down to some of favorite producers at the moment. Minnesota said it best, “I’m Ready to rage with all my Colorado friends and family”. We agree.

You can catch GRiZ, Minnesota, Michal Menert, and many other talented performers at Sonic Bloom 2012 in Georgetown, Colorado this weekend, June 21st through the 24th. Tickets are still available at
