PASS THE GOOD FESTIVAL UNDER TWO WEEKS AWAY:

Way down in the Florida panhandle lays a hidden gem; Pensacola’s Pass the Good Festival. This year marks the third installment of the fundraising-based music, art, and camping festival. Held on 32 beautiful acres from Aug 1-3, PTG features over 50 bands and producers including headliners An-Ten-Nae, Zoogma, Wick-it the Instagator, Vibesquad, & Run DMT and with $85 for a full weekend pass, who couldn’t make the trip to sunny Florida worth it? Incase you find yourself indecisive, take a look at our 5 “Must See” acts of Pass the Good 2014…and then say yes.

1) Skytree

Fresh off his newly acclaimed album Cirrus Sapiens, displaced Colorado resident and producer Skytree will be holding down his intellectual style of electronic music, weaving textured electronic pads with unconventional samples and song-structure. It’s a treat to have him in the area and an absolute must-see.

2) The Nadis Warriors

Coming in from Austin, TX, The Nadis Warriors bring an exceptional live element to the festival with their trance-rock/fusion style. This “live-tronic” group features a rotating cast of players anchored by multi-instrumentalists Matt Cain and Jared Ingebretson. Expect some tracks from their new album “Re:Birth” along with a whole lot of expert improv.

3) Spankalicious

Don’t attempt to categorize Spankalicious. With songs that blend trap, funk, world, and electro into one combination, it would hurt your brain to try. This summer has taken the Cincinnati resident from coast to coast and everywhere in between performing at Wakarusa, Sonic Bloom, and Rootwire all while launching his own record label, ThazDope Records.

4) Skymatic

Phil Ross and Hannah Wilder make up this duo from Atlanta. Featuring production, guitar, and violin, Skymatic adds an organic feel to their electronic grooves that blend effortlessly into something fresh and new. They’ve been on a roll this year and are coming in hot.

5) Jacksonville Up & Comers

This one is not one band. It is multiple. Looking through the roster, only one city has more acts coming in to the festival besides Pensacola itself and that’s Jacksonville. With a rising music scene at home, these acts are primed and ready to dominate the weekend. Hometown heroes S.P.O.R.E., Lucky Costello, Sir Charles, and Monozygotik will all be featured this weekend and all bring something unique and different to the table standing leagues above their heights on the line-up poster.

PASS THE GOOD FOR THE GOOD:

In addition to the stellar musical acts, Pass The Good is also about the community. For a third year in a row PTG will be donating 50% of the proceeds from the fest to Manna Food Pantries of Pensacola who feeds over 42,000 families on the Gulf Coast every year. This is a great festival for a great cause at an extremely affordable price. Curated Music will be in the house all weekend so be sure to check back with us for all the coverage.

2013 UNRELEASED TUNES FROM MARVEL YEARS:

If you’re not familiar with Marvel Years out of Burlington, VT yet then, frankly, I’m not sure what you’re doing on our site.

But that’s okay! You’re in the right place. We’re here to help you. The dude’s been blowin’ up for the last couple years, earning praise for electro-funk-hop driven tunes in the realm of Griz, Menert, and Pretty Lights Fam fame. Just the other day he made a couple previously unreleased tracks available for free download. One of them, “Whistle and Bump,” containing a verse from Dre’s “Nuthin But A G Thang” particularly caught my ear because… well… just listen. Those horns, am I right!?
Give him a listen and check him out on tour with The Floozies this Summer. A match made in hype-hop heaven if you ask me

FESTY NEWS: Our 6 Favorite Acts At Forecastle Festival 2014

10520086_10152609251756458_4628198977435516466_n

OUR FORECASTLE FESTIVAL 2014 FAVORITES:

Located on Kentucky’s Waterfront Park, Forecastle has brought countless big name artists such as Girl Talk, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Z-Trip, RJD2 and many others over the past years. It’s reported an annual attendance of roughly 75,000, and the festival has rapidly expanded ever since it’s debut in 2002. Along with attracting hundreds of local, regional and national artists Forecastle also provides a meeting ground for non-profit organizations and top-notch eats.

Before you take your first step into Louisville this Friday to chase down the sound, world-class BBQ and bourbon, make sure to join us on this write-up on some of the artists you shouldn’t miss during your adventures this year:

Mim0sa / Oakland, California (Friday, 3:00pm – 4:00pm @ Ocean Stage)

Hip-hop, Dubstep, Soul and an overall unique sound is what’s going to get thrown down from veteran producer Mim0sa. A performer with a lengthy list of of massive performances at legendary festivals – (Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Global Dance Fest @ Red Rocks) Mim0sa’s sound will always stand out against your run of the mill 1-2-3 jump DJ’s. Make sure to catch his set early on Friday. FB / TWITTER

Flume / Sydney, Australia (Sunday 8:45pm – 9:45pm @ Ocean Stage)

Although you won’t find any kangaroos (well, at least that’s what we think) in Louisville you will get the chance to see legendary producer Flume. Critically acclaimed and well received around the world, Flume’s story has evolved from his bedroom to some of the world’s most premier festivals. FB / TWITTER

KYGO / Fana Bergen, Norway (Saturday 6:30pm – 7:30pm @Ocean Stage)

As one of the younger faces on the scene, Kygo clocks in at the ripe age of 22 and has already accomplished more than most people twice his age. Like many popular DJ’s KYGO began his career by remixing popular tracks. However, unlike many artists he was able to gain the attention of Chris Martain (Coldplay) to create an official remix and racked up millions upon millions of views (50+ million combined) on Soundcloud & Youtube. Make sure to catch this young producer early in his career! FB / TWITTER

Chrome Sparks / Brooklyn, New York (Sunday, 3:45pm – 4:30pm @ Ocean Stage)

Representing the east coast of the United States Chrome Sparks, aka Jeremy Malvin is a relatively new performer in the electronic dance genre. After going to School for music in the University of Michigan, Malvin toured as a drummer for several bands, gaining performance experience along the way. Today as Chrome Sparks you can expect chill vibes, interesting woven tracks. FB / TWITTER

Claude Vonstroke / Detroit, Michigan (Sunday, 5:15pm – 6:15pm @ Ocean Stage)

Straight from the hometown of Techno itself, Claude Vonstroke is a House music icon. Picking the scene up in 2003, Barclay Crenshaw is often looked up to in the underground dance scene as a shining example of how to do things right. Along with his record labels dirtybird and Mothership, Vonstroke continues to produce timeless house anthems that are well played out across the world. FB / TWITTER

Nightmares on Wax / Leeds, England (6:30pm – 7:30pm @ Ocean Stage)

Hailing from across the pond via Leeds, England, ‘Nightmares on Wax’ is an act you won’t want to skip. Anyone that’s been in the game for 25+ years should be held as a reminder of the depth, history and variety electronic dance music brings. Expect a set jam-packed with funk, hip-hop, house, electro and plenty of more groovy surprises.  FB / TWITTER

So in conclusion, DO NOT LEAVE the Ocean Stage! See you in Kentucky tonight!!
