NEWS: Bus To Show Takes Intoxicated Drivers Off The Road and Puts Them Safely On The Dancefloor (Interview With The Basic Fund’s CEO)

389851_255752171152970_1121956730_n

BUS TO SHOW HELPS REDUCE DRINKING AND DRIVING IN STUDENTS:

A couple of weekends ago, I attended The Motet’s Album Release Party in Denver, CO. While walking around checking out the vending tables, I came across a table with the words BUS TO SHOW written on a pamphlet. I was instantly greeted by a beautiful girl named Brielle, who told me all about what Bus to Show is and what this amazing organization does.

Bus to Show (BTS) originally started as a fund raiser for The Basics Fund, a nonprofit corporation that was founded in Colorado. “Bus to Show is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing intoxicated driving by organizing eco-friendly, community-integrated and financially-accessible party bus transportation to concerts and other events.” Since 2007, BTS has organized transportation with a safe return for over 10,000 people each year. As a result, DUIs in Boulder alone have decreased by over 30% (that’s a total of 836 DUIs over the course of 3 years). Bus to Show works not only with the fans, but partners with venues, artists, teams, promoters, event planners, media outlets, bus companies, nonprofits, affected community members, and local businesses to bring together and fund safe, environment friendly transportation to and from high risk events.

BTS currently operates in Colorado, Missouri, Texas, Florida, and Chicago. All riders are required to become a member of BTS and members of The Basics Fund ride 100% free. Bustoshow.org is the direct link for all information including a party bus calendar, links to become a member, a sponsorship page, and even a career and internship page. BTS also provides a “DJ on board” program for their rides, motivated and proud to be a venue for discovering new music, BTS offers up-and-coming artists numerous opportunities to perform in a unique setting, right on the bus!

I had the opportunity to talk with Executive Director of Bus to Show, Dustin Huth. “The ultimate goal is to make Bus to Show a national household name, we are setting the bar high, we want to be up there with the YMCA, a national non-profit role model for us,” he explains. Recently, BTS provided transportation to three of Denver’s 2014 New Year’s Eve festivities, which included safe rides to and from The String Cheese Incident, Umphreys McGee, and Decadence. “Our largest event thus far was Big Gigantic at Red Rocks last fall”, Huth reminisces. “In 2013 alone, we moved 14,000 riders,” he proudly boasts.  More than 50% of Bus to Show riders are college students, as a large support base for BTS exists in Boulder, CO. “We are just trying to make it super easy for people to be safe.”

Spreading the love of the bus, BTS supports other worthwhile causes such as the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, United Way Foothills, Community Art Share, Boulder B-Cycle, and Center for Resource Conservation. In addition, BTS still works with the Basics Fund to raise funds to help pay for upcoming artists’ health insurance. Thrive Nonprofit is another organization working with BTS, as well as Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas.

To get involved with Bus To Show as a passenger, volunteer, or anything in between, visit their website here. Keep your eyes peeled for big things in the Bus To Show future!

NEW RELEASE: Big Gigantic – ‘The Night Is Young’ (NEW ALBUM OUT NOW) [FREE Download]

1888606_10152056771403145_505341432_n

BIG GIGANTIC RELEASE EPIC NEW ALBUM:

Despite mountainous piles of snow, bitter cold temperatures, & the lack of giant outdoor gatherings going down right now, Big Gigantic has successfully made us feel like we are smack dab in the middle of festival season today with the release of their new album The Night Is Young. Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken have taken the Big Gigantic project a very long way since it’s inception, and this album shows how versatile these guys have become with their sound production all while still maintaining a motif that is classic and synonymous to their name.

The album kicks off in high gear with the first couple tunes giving us the hard hitting punch we need to get our blood flowing leading into the title track “The Night Is Young” featuring fellow festival commanders Cherub. To describe this track as “sexy and smooth” would just be an understatement as the title tune is more like a tantalizing & electric orgasm. We are kept in nirvana as Big G carries us to “Touch The Sky”. It’s safe to say that tens of thousands of fans will be raging their asses off to this single from the album.

“Lets Go!” is perhaps the favorite of mine on the album. A great mix of organic and electronic elements, the tune strikes in so many ways.

Tracks like “From Dusk Till Dawn” & “Shooting Stars” are evidence of Big Gigantic’s hard-work and time well spent off the tour bus in the studio. Dom and Jeremy are truly dedicated and open to experimenting, advancing, and working with new sounds and techniques contributing to their reign on top of the game right now. It’s great to see and even better to listen to 🙂

The Night Is Young is OUT NOW and available for FREE download from the Big Gigantic website, for purchase on iTunes, or you can order the physical copy of the album.

Big Gigantic’s “The Night Is Young” Winter 2014 Tour kicks off tomorrow with support from Manic Focus, gLAdiator, and Caked Up. The tour rolls into Michigan this Sunday, Feb. 16th at The Royal Oak Music Theater. Tickets are available here.

NEW RELEASE: Exmag – ‘Proportions’ (Debut Album) [FREE Download]

artworks-000065920322-d3drw2-t500x500

EXMAG’S PROPORTIONS GETS FUNKY:

Gramatik’s Low Temp Labels’ funkiest boys from Brooklyn, aka Exmag got together and recently released their debut full-length album Porportions. Eric Mendelson, Tyler Dondero also know as SuperNicer, Mike Iannatto, Denis Jasarevic more popularly known as Gramatik and Bryn Bellomy also known as ILLUMNTR, locked themselves in a studio somewhere in Brooklyn to make 18 tracks of soulful sex jazz. Prepare yourself for over an hour of beautiful baby making beats.

Strap on your boogie boots & get ready to introduce your ears to a sexy mixture of future-rock-seventies-soul music. While listening to Proportions, you will notice that Exmag does a great job rounding up, and highlighting each of the artists’ talents. Joining the group on the freshman album are features from friends Russ Liquid, Kianu, D-smooth, Jason Huber, Jesus, plus multi-track artists Branx and GIBBZ. The bossman GIBBZ went to school for audiosynthesis engineering, and helped bring that funky sound to this album, as well as feature credits on 3 songs.

Exmag starts the album out with a smooth cadence paired with tender voices on “True Love From the Future”. The groovy track “Persian Temptress” makes you believe you’re a Disco Diva strutting your stuff at the club. I imagine this song as a soundtrack to an old, accurate, and cocaine-filled, disco era flick.

Songs like “#SuperNicer”,“Zan”, and “Junk In That Thang”, all have such amazing electric guitar, and heavy heart filled bass parts. They will make you want to either grab your partner and head to the dace floor… OR the bedroom!

Give It To Me Quick” gets you drunk on funk while bringing you into “Fresh Prince Situation” featuring Jason from Cherub on guitar with ILLUMNTAR and GIBBZ serenading the ladies with their vocals. Lastly, I’d like to touch on my personal favorite “NuFunk Odyssey” where the slapping of soulful strings takes control of your mind and body to lock you in to the 1970’s funky mindset. What an album!!!

Keep your sexual vibes flowing and blame Exmag if they knock you up with their electronic-soul-funk.
